1 man + 1 bike + 1 continent = theboycyclesamerica
ok, so here is the score so far. during the summer of 2004, round about the time that Sport Relief was happening, out of nowhere had a seed of though planted in my head which steadily grew. i've always wanted to do some sort of fund raising and the thought of doing it through sport appealed to me. back before i started driving i used to a fair bit of cycling and am getting back out on the bike and enjoying it again. so i thought that why not use getting back on the bike as a way of raising some money for a good cause. i thought of cycling John O'groats to Lands End, but that has been done before. so i then got to thinking of what else could i cycle. then it came to me, in a moment of stupidity (or whatever you want to call it) i thought, why not cycle america. not something that you hear many people say they've done.
after a bit of googling i stumbled across the site cycleamerica.org.uk about 2 guys (Matt Smith and Phil Fellowes), who were mid way thro their own trip across the states by bike in 60 days! after reading the postings that they were adding to the site along the way. that was it, no matter what i told myself my mind was pretty much made up. all i had to do was decide when.
so this is where i'm at so far. i've decided who i'm gonna fundraise for (i think) i've built the site, which i'll use to keep track of where i'm at and any ideas for whole project. i'm not sure how often i'll be updating, probably as and when anything happens.
